Driving Lessons
At Formula One Driving School in Bedford we can offer you all you need to become a safe driver for life. We have a professional and patient approach to driver training and are able to adapt our approach to any individual. Please find below some helpful information for your first driving lesson.
What you will need to start
Your eyesight
When we first meet, I will need to check your provisional drivers licence and ask you to read a number plate from 67 feet or 20.5 metres to check your eyesight (it is an offence to drive with uncorrected defective vision). If you are not sure about your sight you should consult an option before you begin.
Your driving licence
You will need to have received your driving licence before you can start learning to drive or apply for your theory test. If you have an old style paper licence (i.e. no photo id card) you must take a passport as identification to your theory test.
How many lessons will I need?
Everyone is different, the number of driving lessons you will need will depend upon how easily you pick up the skills necessary to learn to drive safely. After you have had a few lessons your driving instructor will be able to make an assessment on how long it may take to achieve.
What to wear to lessons
Wear comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movements, high heels or rigid shoes or boots will limit your ability to use the foot controls smoothly.
The first driving lesson (the free one).
If you already have some driving experience the first driving lesson will be along the lines of an assessment driving lesson, where we can get an idea of the standard that you have reached so far and give some sort of assessment.
If you are a completely new to driving our first driving lesson will be on a quiet road fairly close to your location, where we will go over the cockpit drill (which is the routine that you will follow at the beginning of every lesson to ensure that it is safe and secure and to make sure that you are seated correctly with mirrors aligned and adjusted properly). We will then proceed to describe and explain all of the controls needed to move off safely using M.S.M (Mirrors, Signal, and Manoeuvre).

To assist you we provide a free driving lessons manual which we will add to each week.
